Here are a few ways that you can best support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul:
Pay tribute to someone special by giving a donation in their Honor or in their Memory. Memorial or tribute cards are available and are published in our triannual newsletter: The Vincentian Way. Contact Monique Love at (516)822-3132 or mlove@svdpli.org for cards
You can double or even triple the value of your contribution to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul if your employer has a matching gift program. Often, employers will match employee charitable contributions dollar for dollar! Contact your human resource manager to inquire about your company’s matching gift program
Your legacy of faith is the ultimate gift you can make to ensure your charitable wishes are carried out beyond your lifetime. Estate planning offers the opportunity to continue to make an enduring statement of faith and leave an indelible mark on the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Long Island.
There are numerous planned giving opportunities consistent with your philanthropic goals and personal financial situation. Working with your financial advisor, accountant or attorney is the best way to achieve your goals.
- Bequests
Including a gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in your will or living trust is one of the easiest ways to give a substantial gift for posterity. By making a gift through your will, there is no current cost and you may secure a future charitable estate tax deduction for the value of the gift. - Life Insurance
You designate the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Long Island as the owner or the beneficiary of your policy. As the owner, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Long Island has the ability to surrender the policy for its cash value or hold it and receive the proceeds at your passing. You may purchase a new policy or adjust an existing one and make the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Long Island the owner or the beneficiary. - Appreciated Stocks
You can send unendorsed stock certificates by registered mail or instruct your broker to make a direct transfer from your account to our account. You may be eligible to receive an income-tax deduction. - IRA Charitable Rollovers
The IRA Charitable Transfer, known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), is an excellent way to make gifts and receive tax benefits in return. As you plan your required minimum distributions for the year, consider using your IRA account to make the most of your charitable giving. You receive a tax benefit even if you take the standard deduction.
You’ve probably passed the signs of our Thrift Stores countless times, or seen one of our trucks out on the road collecting donations. Chances are, you probably haven’t given them much thought as you go about your day. But for many people on Long Island, our thrift stores have become an important part of their lives. For some, struggling to make ends meet; the Society’s Thrift Stores are a place where they can find clothing, furniture, home goods, and other items at prices they can afford.
Our thrift stores depend on the donation of gently used clothing, furniture, and household items to help people in need. With the high cost of living on Long Island and the growth of the working poor, people need an affordable alternative to help furnish their homes and clothe their families. Neighbors in need, can access clothing and furniture vouchers to redeem at the stores by working with their local parish conference.
All revenue generated from sales is used to continue serving those in need throughout our community. Donations can be made directly to our Thrift Stores or through our recognizable green clothing bins, including supermarkets and parishes around Long Island.
Furniture is picked up free-of-charge. To arrange a furniture pick up, please contact us.
We will contact you to review your donation request and schedule a pick up.

We participate in a vehicle purchase program through our National Office. To donate a vehicle (car, truck, motorcycle, boat etc.), please call (800) 322-8284 or visit our website: www.svdpusacars.com
The Society is always looking to partner with schools, businesses and community members on clothing drives! This is a fun way to give back to the community, while also showcasing your company’s philanthropic side!
Our drives are meant to secure new and gently-used clothing for our thrift stores in Huntington and Garden City Park, and collected items are used in one of two ways; proceeds from items sold at our stores are used to fund our mission of assisting those in need. Alternatively, someone looking for help can obtain clothing vouchers from their nearby Conference, and secure these items free of charge at our thrift stores.
Clothing drives can be as general or as specific as you like (ex. “Socktober” drive, “Smitten Mittens” Valentine’s Day Drive, “Vote with a Coat” Election Day Drive, “Spring Cleaning” Drive), and we will work with you to arrange a pickup from one of our signature SVDPLI trucks, including a photo opportunity for public relations purposes.
Toy drives are limited to the Christmas season, and require donations of new, unused items only.
